COMPANY OVERVIEW
Poplar Creek Resources Inc. is a Calgary Alberta based oil and gas exploration and production company run by an experienced team of petroleum industry professionals. The Company holds interest in approximately 200 sections of petroleum and natural gas rights within its core operating area of Smokey Lake Alberta (located approximately 100 Kilometers North East of Edmonton, Alberta). Currently the company has a growing focus on oil with its participation in the development of a Sparky heavy oil horizontal drilling project within its core area at Warspite Alberta. Poplar Creek is publically traded on the TSX Venture exchange under the symbol PCK-V.
MANAGEMENT
John Carruthers, B.A, CEO, Poplar Creek Resources – CEO and Director
Mr. Carruthers has over 35 years of experience in the petroleum sector both in Canada and Australia. John is a former Director and the former Executive VP of Avery Resources (2003-2008), a TSX listed corporation that actively explored internationally with a focus on Australia’s Cooper Basin. Mr. Carruthers was the founder of Encounter Energy Inc., the Chairman of Tethys (1997-1999), the Founder, President and CEO of Lorrac Energy (1992-1996) and the co-founder of Hillcrest Resources. In addition to his pursuits in the resource sector Mr. Carruthers is the current Alberta representative to the national board of the Canadian Automobile Association (CAA) and the former Chairman of the board of directors of the Alberta Motor Association (AMA).
Richard Edgar, P. Geol. – President and Director
Mr. Edgar is a highly respected oil and gas professional who has been active in the petroleum industry in Canada and internationally for nearly 40 years. Mr. Edgar was formerly Chairman of the Board of Shelton Canada Corp., President of Energy North Inc., President of Avery Resources Inc. and Director of Tristar. He currently serves on the boards of: Passport Energy Ltd. and Shelton Petroleum AB. Mr. Edgar is a member of the Petroleum Exploration Society of Great Britain, the Petroleum Exploration Society of Australia, the Canadian Society of Professional Geologists (“CSPG”) and the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta (“APEGGA”).
DIRECTORS
George Watson, P. Eng – Chairman
Mr. Watson has been the Chief Executive Officer of Critical Control Solutions since July 2002 and also served as President of Critical Control from July 2002 until December 2003. Mr. Watson is the former President and CEO of TransCanada Pipelines Ltd. (March 1993 to July 1999). Prior to his role as CEO of TransCanada, Mr. Watson also served as CFO (June 1990 to March 1993). He has more than 25 years of experience in the oil patch, including positions at Dome Petroleum and as CEO of Intensity Resources Ltd. Mr. Watson sits on the boards of Queen’s University, Calgary Olympic Development Association (CODA), Blizzard Energy Inc., Repeat Seat Ltd., Recap Energy Inc., Signal Energy Inc., TGS North American Real Estate Investment Trust, Canadian Spirit Energy Inc., Teekay Ing LLP and Badger Income Trust. Former directorships include the Conference Board of Canada, the Interstate Natural Gas Association of America, the Canadian Energy Pipelines Association, Equitorial Energy Inc. TransCanada Pipelines and subsidiaries, as well as the Toronto Dominion Bank plus many other small entities. Mr. Watson holds a Bachelor of Science (Engineering) degree and MBA from Queens University as well as an A.M.P. from Harvard.
Gregory R. Harris, LL. B. – Director
Mr. Harris is a lawyer and has been a member of the Law Society of Alberta since 1979 and was previously a member of the Law Society of British Columbia in 1972. Mr. Harris received his B.A. in 1971 and his LL.B. in 1972 from the University of Alberta. His legal practice is limited to securities law. He is the chairman and a director of Estrella Gold Corporation and Antioquia Gold Inc., both TSX Venture Exchange listed mineral exploration companies.
Lee Nichols, P. Eng. – Director
Mr. Nichols received a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Engineering Geology Option) from Queen's University of Kingston, Ontario, in 1963, and a Master of Science in Geology and Civil Engineering from Syracuse University of Syracuse, New York in 1966. He has over 42 years of experience in the mining industry. Starting his career in 1963, Mr. Nichols has worked for Iron Ore Company of Canada, Syncrude Canada Ltd., and Luscar Limited in various engineering capacities, including Chief Mine Engineer. Since 1983, he has been the President of Terracon Geotechnique Ltd. of Calgary, Alberta, a private consulting company. In this capacity he has served clients in the oil sand, coal, iron ore and base metals sectors. Projects have included resource estimates, geotechnical evaluations for mines tailings, and dump structures and groundwater control systems. He has served as ground control expert to government organizations.
Colin Cook, B.A. Econ, MBA – Director
Mr. Cook joined Petro-Canada in 1976 and worked in all major areas of the company prior to his retirement in 2009. Most recently at Petro-Canada he was Vice President of Marketing and Development in the Oil Sands group and an officer of the Corporation. Currently he is a Senior Affiliate in an Alberta consulting firm specializing in oil and bitumen markets and corporate strategies. He is also a Board member of Opsens Inc., a fibre optics company based in Quebec.
